David Wright Photo Safari 2025

Join Photographer David Wright for a Photo Safari on Georgia’s Cumberland Island

Sunday, February 23, 2025 – Thursday, February 27, 2025

THE INN

Greyfield was built by the Carnegie family in 1900. Only accessible by Greyfield’s private boat, this luxury destination transports guests back in time; the furnishings and style remain true to its history. The Inn offers 15 comfortable rooms between the main house and two additional cottages. Cozy fireplaces and a breezy, shaded veranda make the inn a wonderful year-round travel destination. The friendly staff, fine dining, yet relaxing atmosphere, complement the time spent exploring some of the island’s exclusive and hidden treasures with your hosts.

THE HOST

David Wright is an award-winning, wildlife filmmaker and photographer with a 30-year career working for clients that include National Geographic and the BBC Natural History Unit, he has worked on projects in over 65 countries. Additionally, he also helps host international expeditions and tours: destinations have included Iceland, Svalbard, Australia, New Zealand, and Greenland. When not traveling, he makes his home on the Georgia coast, frequently visiting Cumberland and surrounding islands to document the region’s landscapes, history, and wildlife.

THE SAFARI

Cumberland is a wonderful place to reconnect with your creative spirit and escape to an island retreat. This trip will cater to photographers of all levels, whether you shoot with a smartphone or a DSLR. We design the trip with an emphasis on expanding your photographic skills while exploring the island’s natural beauty and history. Weather permitting, most of our time will be spent outdoors. With the assistance of the inn’s naturalist staff and David will take you to some of the most beautiful parts of the island.

Outings will be themed with a focus on different photographic skills, and the group will be small enough for everyone to get the personal attention they need. We prefer the classroom to be out in nature. The schedule will be full during your stay. Feel free to accompany us for the entire time, or break away to take a few hours for yourself. Make sure you carve out a little time to relax on the beach or the Inn’s iconic porch.

After accessing the inn on the private ferry from Fernandina, FL, safari excursions around Cumberland Island will be tailored to attendees’ preferences. You can hike in the old growth forests, bike along the 18 + miles of beachfront, or be driven around the island to explore the historic sites and buildings. And after a day of adventure, guests will enjoy a relaxing evening on the Greyfield Inn porch, followed by dinner, all while having the opportunity to spend time with your hosts, hear feedback on your photography, or share stories of this and other adventures.

Guests are welcome to bring a traveling companion, and while you participate in the safari, they can head off on their own island adventures, rejoining the group for cocktails and dinner.
